Dorothy
Waugh studied at the Chicago Art Institute. After graduation, she
worked in a commercial art studio in Chicago. Upon relocating to
New York, she was manager of the children's book department at Alfred
A. Knopf. In addition to her work at Knopf she was production supervisor
of the National Park Service as well as doing copy, layout and artwork.
In the late 1930's she was appointed special lecturer and critic
to the New York School of Fine and Applied Art. While there she
also taught typography and design.
