Peter
Takal was born in Bucharest but grew up in Berlin. He was a self-taught artist and exhibited at several galleries including Jeanne Castel,
Galleries Zak and the Salon d‘Automne. His work was first shown
in the United States at the Katherine Kuhe gallery in Chicago. He
had a one man show there in 1939 and emigrated to the US the same
year. He was encouraged by Alexey Brodovitch and was a regular contributor
to Harper's Bazaar. His other clients included Saks Fifth Avenue,
Bergdorf Goodman, Delman's and Town and Country.
