Nathaniel J. Pousette-Dart studied painting with Robert Henri and sculpture with McNeil. In 1907 he was in Philadelphia studying at the Philadelphia Academy. After three years of study and two years abroad he returned home to St. Paul, Minnesotas. In St. Paul he worked as an art director and taught at Minnesota College, St. Catherines College and St. Paul Art School. He returned to New York after a few years and became art director at one of New York's leading advertising firms. He went into business for himself in 1924 and was very active in the New York Art Director's Club. He continued to exhiibit his painting and prints throughout his career.
