Richard Erdoes

1912 - 2008

Richard Erdoes fled Germany after publishing anti-Hitler political cartoons. He studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and illustrated children's books until he had to flee again, eventually arriving in NY via Paris. He practiced as a commercial artist and illustrator and was published in Stage, Fortune, Pageant, Gourmet, Harper's Bazaar and other magazines. He was active with the graphic arts division of the New York City WPA.
