Francis Brennan

1910 - 1992

Francis Brennan worked for Dr. M. F. Agha at Condé Nast as art director of British Vogue and House and Garden and in January 1938 he was appointed art director of Fortune magazine, a position he held until 1942. Under his directorship such artists as Hans J. Barschel, Tom Benrimo. Herbert Bayer, Otto Hagel, George Giusti and Fernand Leger were commissioned as cover artists and designers. In addition he was also a frequent cover artist. From 1947-1961 he was art advisor to the editor in chief of Time, Life and Fortune. He later became vice president of McCann-Erickson advertising agency and in the late sixties assistant to McCall's president.
