WebTV Search

Assignment: Redesign Search for the WebTV service. Integrate Browse categories and an ad on the main page and fit it all in without scrolling.

Approach: Search on the WebTV service partnered with Infoseek for the Search Results. The top level browse categories and featured sites were hand selected by content programmers at WebTV.

I was lead UI designer for the section and developed multiple iterations of the main search page. Primarily exploring the organization and amount of browse categories as well as placement of the Help link and the wording around the Search box. This page and functionality went through 4 or 5 rounds of usability testing before finally settling on the screen shown here.

The Featured sites and final search results (not shown) did not go through as many rounds. Although several iterations explored the placement of the ads and the Search Again area on the results pages.
