Approach:The San Francisco Foundation site documents the programs and mission of the foundation.
The challenge was to create a look and feel that was one of community and to utilize images from the Foundation’s collateral peices to tell the story. The color set comes from the logo design and other printed materials to maintain a family identity.
Working with the Foundation’s marketing manager, we reviewed the current collateral pieces—brochures, annual reports, etc.— and I developed an architecture that would represent the various programs and areas of the foundation and would be flexible enough to grow over time as programs were added.
Main navigation was placed down the left side and secondary navigation was revealed as a user selected a main area.
The imagery used in the site primarily comes from the collateral material already existing or being developed for the Foundation. The main head images are a brown duotone and the images used in the body of the page are a blue duotone. Both colors come from the logo.
Outcome: The site was officially presented at the annual board meeting in 1998. As it was the first site for the group there were no comparative metrics. The site has since been redesigned.
