Kodak Software Package Designs

Assignment: Design packaging for software developed and sold by Eastman Kodak. Utilize the Digital Science identity system.

Package 2::Document Image Display
Approach: Using elements from the then new Kodak Digital Science identity system and collateral style guide, I created package designs for two different software applications. The packaging needed to follow a similar grid system, so customers could identify that they came from the same company, but also needed to retain their individual identities.

Package 1: Capture, is a high-volume text document OCR software.

Package 2: Document Image Display software, converts microfilm to digital information.

Each package uses the same placement for the logo and software name identifier. The blue and white areas are also similarly placed. Since the agency which created the identity system only developed usage guidelines for advertising and collateral, the Design Resource Center designers had to agree upon and develop a separate set of guidelines for packaging and equipment.

In each package, the yellow bar is the beginning point for imagery associated with the software's capabilities. Since Capture was an OCR software, dealing exclusively with text, the image solution was typographic. The Image Display software illustration brings together the computer and microfilm. The existing icon for the software is used as a large graphic element in the blue field.

Both packages were the first instances of packaging under the Digital Science brand.
